What you need to know
A financial plan needs context over time
A change in work, family circumstances or spending can affect what you need from your money. Regular reviews give you an opportunity to bring these changes into the conversation and assess the plan against your current priorities.
Ongoing advice is a service with an agreed scope and cost. We explain what is included, how reviews are arranged and the responsibilities on both sides before you decide whether to proceed.
Review progress against your goals
A review can look at investments, contributions, withdrawals and the time left before important milestones. Your attitude to risk and ability to withstand losses may also have changed.
Portfolio monitoring does not prevent losses or guarantee returns. Nor does every market movement call for a change. We help distinguish a short-term fluctuation from a change that matters to your plan.
Keep important information up to date
Tell your adviser about significant changes rather than waiting for a scheduled meeting. New debts, a major gift, retirement plans or a need to access money may affect the advice you require.
- Changes to income, spending or financial commitments
- New goals or a different timescale for existing ones
- Planned contributions, withdrawals or large purchases
- Family changes and updated beneficiary wishes
- Questions about your portfolio, charges or agreed service
Know what support you have agreed
The frequency of meetings, planning updates and investment reviews should be clear in your service agreement. We explain applicable fees and how to raise questions about the service or discuss changing it.
The purpose is to keep decisions connected to your goals. Where changes are recommended, we explain the reasons, risks and costs so you can decide with a clear understanding of the next step.
The value of investments can fall as well as rise and you may get back less than you invest. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change.
